Getai @ Blk 953 Jurong West St 92 (15th June 2013)

I hardly take pictures while watching getai as normally i sit in the back, this round, i manage to sit in the few rows which is nearer to the stage as those famous chop seats aunty and uncle did not go there.  I did not use flash, so pictures taken was not very sharp..

Lai Heng Handmade Teochew Kueh

Came across people sharing about this Lai Heng Handmade Teochew Kueh which is at Yuhua Village Food Centre, was there for my breakfast cum lunch last Sat and bought some back home to try out.

Pumpkin Sausage Bun

Hope no one is scare away by my horrible looking Pumpkin Sausage Bun, hehe...


The other time, i did the Sweet Potato Sausage Buns from Cooking Pleasure blog, this round, i try out with pumpkin.

Recipe from Cooking Pleasure blog :
Ingredients
[makes 10-12 pieces]
300 gm pau flour or plain flour
100 gm mashed sweet potatoes [I used purple sweet potatoes]
2 tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
120-130 ml water
2 tsp yeast
3 tbsp sesame oil
1 tbsp white sesame seeds [optional]
some toasted black sesame seeds - for garnish [optional]

10 pieces chicken sausage - steamed for 10 minutes -  set aside to cool

Using a Dough Mixer or Hand Knead :

Combine all the ingredients [except sesame oil and seeds] in a mixing bowl.  Knead until soft [about 5-10 minutes].  Then add in the sesame oil, continue to knead until soft, smooth and elastic.  Add sesame seeds and knead for 1-2 minutes to mix well.

  • Shape into a ball and cover to rest for about 20-30 minutes or until double in size.

  • Punch down dough and remove dough to a floured surface, divide into 2 round balls.   Flatten each ball and cut into 5 equal portion.  Shape each portion in long slender strips.  
  • Use a strip to wrap a sausage into a roll.   Place roll on a piece of greaseproof paper.   Place shaped dough in the steaming tray.

  • Leave to prove for 15 - 20 minutes or until double in size.

  • Steam over high heat for 10 minutes in a steamer.  Off heat and leave rolls for a further 3 minutes before uncovering to cool on rack.  This is to prevent wrinkle,  rough skin  [sometimes they may be a little wrinkle - probably because of proofing time but the texture is unaffected].

  • By using half of the recipe, i should be using 150g plain flour and 50g mashed pumpkin, but instead i used 100g plain flour and 100g mashed pumpkin and what i get is that the dough is soft and sticky which makes me a bit more difficult and more time to shape the bun and in the end turns out to be ugly.

    Navy Open House (18th May 2013)

    The last time, i went to the Changi Naval Base Open House was in 2010, this round, there's an open house on 18th and 19th May 2013, went there to have a look.  Free shuttle bus are available from Singapore Expo.

    I loves the design of the T-shirt, but too bad, they didn't sell it, only for the staffs there.





    These 2 guys saw me taking my camera, pose and let me take picture of them.













    Only manage to view one of the inside of the ships as most of the other ships, the Q are very long.
